The Innovation Excellence awards acknowledges a company in the Irish Export and Freight industry who has invested in innovative business solutions to make operations more efficient, profitable and successful through means of cutting edge technologies or environmental solutions.
Spanish Point worked closely with Irish Ferries Freight and took a collaborative approach in researching, developing and implementing an online portal called freightengine® which used cutting edge technology to vastly improve business systems and its B2B and B2C user experience.
Freightengine® is a modern web application designed for scalability, usability (tablets, desktop and mobile), and security. It is designed to deliver exceptional user experience. This is achieved through modern UX design methodologies incorporating multiple persona modelling with top end UX designers. . It incorporates a modern content management system enabling the business to manage and deliver user specific content. As a business application it delivers a level of UX that is normally associated with high end dynamic content public facing web sites.
Since the launch of freightengine® the online bookings have risen by 30% owing to how incredibly efficient and simple it is to use for ICG customers. It also meets with customers very specific needs and the success of the mobile site gives customers 24/7 access to doing business with us.85% of Irish Ferries Freight bookings now come through the online channel making it a vitally important business tool for its customers and for the company.

The Transport & Logistics awards, organised by the Hillsborough based publishers of Export & Freight magazine, 4SM (NI) Ltd., is widely regarded as the premier event in the Irish Transport & Logistics calendar, attracting entries, support and sponsorship from all the leading players in the industry. There were 16 separate categories and Irish Ferries Freight were privileged to have been awarded the much coveted Innovation Excellence Award. The Award was sponsored by Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) at a ceremony at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast on 8th September.
