FoodCloud is an Irish social enterprise with a mission to transform surplus food into opportunities to make the world a kinder place. Established in 2013, they operate in Ireland, the UK, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, and have redistributed over 16,380 tonnes of surplus food, equivalent to 39 million meals. This has helped to avoid approximately 52,416 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions.
FoodCloud’s primary focus is on reducing the environmental, social, and economic impact of food waste. They achieve this by connecting food businesses that have surplus food with charities and community groups that need it. They work with a wide range of food businesses, including farms, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.
Spanish Point used their SMART AIM framework for ISV’s to assess FoodCloud’s current Azure environment and identify opportunities for modernisation. Together, they aimed to harness Azure’s potential to magnify their impact and ensure an even more effective redistribution of surplus food.
Engaging in a collaborative effort, the Spanish Point team conducted a series of workshops aimed at enhancing the design and architecture of the platform on Azure. These workshops focused on identifying avenues for modernisation and optimisation. Through a successful partnership with Spanish Point, FoodCloud further harnessed the capabilities of Microsoft Azure, leveraging the advantages offered by cloud technology for their platform.
